Drilling Down: Showing Impact Using the C.A.R.E. Model
In my last post, I discussed using the care model to demonstrate impact using the example of launching the Northern Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce. Today, let’s look at drilldown examples of the C.A.R.E. Model that feature specific tasks or projects.
Context: African American entrepreneurs in Northern Virginia lacked local programs supporting Black-owned businesses. Action: Partnered with business leaders to co-found the Chamber. Result: Built a membership base of nearly 100 businesses within five years. Effect: Established a trusted, influential voice for the region’s Black Business Community.
Context: New organization needed to deliver immediate value to members. Action: Designed and led trainings, networking events and professional development programs. Result: Hosted 25+ annual events by year three. Effect: Strengthened business capacity, visibility and engagement across the community.
Context: Minority-owned businesses faced limited access to regional opportunities. Action: Advocated with public officials and community organizations to increase inclusion. Result: Helped expand access to contracts and resources. Effect: Advanced equitable business growth and partnerships in Northern Virginia.
Context: Chamber sustainability depended on leadership continuity and impact. Action: Developed systems and partnerships to ensure long-term viability. Result: Created a stable, recognized institution. Effect: Organization remains active and thriving more than 17 years later.
